See you in Court! Bernardo Arévalo rallies the people of Guatemala

Bernardo Arévalo is rallying the people of Guatemala to stand with him as he files a legal petition, known as “Amparo,” before the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) on Monday, September 18. His objective is to seek the removal of Consuelo Porras, along with other officials, reports Prensa Libre.
The legal concept of “Amparo” serves as a protection for individuals, shielding them from potential rights infringements or restoring those rights when violations have taken place. It applies universally, covering all domains, and activates whenever actions, decisions, regulations, or laws issued by authorities pose a threat, limitation, or breach of rights safeguarded by the Constitution and the legal system, as defined by the Corte de Constitucionalidad of Guatemala.
Guatemala’s President-elect, Bernardo Arévalo, has declared his intention to submit an “Amparo” to the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) on Monday, September 18. This legal action is being taken to call for the removal of Consuelo Porras from her position as the Attorney General of the Public Ministry (MP).
Furthermore, the amparo also aims to demand the removal of Rafael Curruchiche, who heads the Special Prosecutor’s Office Against Impunity (Feci), and Judge Fredy Orellana.
“The time has come for all of us together, as one nation, to step forward, raise our voices and put a stop to that corrupt and coup-mongering minority that tries to deny the people of Guatemala the right to live in democracy. See you in court! Join us on Monday, September 18, at 5:30 P.M. in the Plaza de los Derechos Humanos, at the CSJ. Together, we will present an amparo and forcefully say “fuera golpistas” Bring your blue and white flag and let’s defend the right to build a better future,” tweeted Arévalo.

Arévalo explained, “We have opted to file this amparo to restore constitutional order and advocate for the dismissal of Attorney General Consuelo Porras, Feci Prosecutor Rafael Curruchiche, and Judge Fredy Orellana.”
According to Arévalo, these officials have “betrayed the trust of the people” by interfering in the democratic process during the 2023 General Elections. He asserted, “By misusing their authority, they have deprived citizens of their right to live in a democracy, governed by the individuals they have freely and consciously chosen.”
The president-elect called upon the citizens of Guatemala to stand in solidarity with him during this legal process and to safeguard the nation’s democratic principles. He stated, “Filing this petition is a right that belongs to every Guatemalan citizen, which is why we urge all of you to join us in this endeavor. We extend this invitation to the entire populace, including workers, entrepreneurs, organizations dedicated to the common good, and faith communities.”
“We implore you to unite with us on Monday to assert our collective right to self-governance free from oppression or tyranny,” Bernardo Arévalo concluded.
