Colombia and Haiti Collaborate on Vocational Training

Colombia and Haiti Collaborate on Vocational Training.

To strengthen cooperation between the two countries and actively contribute to capacity building in Haiti, a virtual meeting was convened on February 9th, reports the Cancilleria de Colombia.

Participants included Minister Nesmi Manigat from the Ministry of Education of Haiti, representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, the National Learning Service (SENA), and Colombia’s Consul in Haiti, Vilma Velásquez.

The meeting aimed to review procedures and regulations to facilitate the imminent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. This memorandum will pave the way for technical and vocational training of Haitian citizens in Colombia.

SENA has indicated its willingness to support the training of an initial group of Haitian apprentices, both in-person and virtually.

In the following weeks, administrative procedures will be undertaken to formalize this initiative. Upon agreement on applicable conditions by both countries, the training of Haitian apprentices is expected to commence in the second semester of 2024.
