President Boric on National Sports Day: “Sports Build a Better Chile.”
President Gabriel Boric on National Sports Day: “We want to convey to all of Chile that by participating in sports, we can build a better society.”
On April 6, 2024, the president arrived at the National Stadium Park to celebrate National Sports Day and invited the entire population to join the over 300 activities taking place over the weekend throughout the country. Earlier, he participated in a table tennis clinic at Constitution Square, featuring athletes from Team Chile and Team PARA Chile.

Accompanied by the Minister of Sports, Jaime Pizarro, the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Juan Carlos Muñoz, and the Sports Undersecretary, Antonia Illanes, President Gabriel Boric Font cycled from La Moneda Palace to the sports center in the Ñuñoa commune. There, they observed various activities, such as a BMX championship and an athletics championship at the Mario Recordón Athletic Stadium.

The tour concluded at the esplanade of the National Stadium Park, where a stage was set up along with various sports exhibitions including human foosball, mini football, and mini basketball, as well as booths from the National Sports Institute and various services such as a mobile vaccination center, INJUV, SENAMA, SENADIS, Frutas de Chile, among others.
Addressing the more than a thousand people gathered at the National Stadium Park, the President said, “Today, we are celebrating this National Sports Day because we want to turn it into a popular celebration. We are convinced from the Government that investing in sports is not an expense; it’s one of the best investments we can make for health, security, and happiness. Today, from our legendary National Stadium, we want to tell all of Chile that by participating in sports, we can build a better society.”

The president also emphasized the importance of sports for social cohesion, stating, “Crime is also combated by reclaiming public spaces. And for that, we need sports, culture, and education. That’s why, neighbors, a characteristic of our government, a progressive government, is precisely to reclaim these public spaces with activities like this because that’s how we regain social fabric and popular organization. I invite all families here to get to know each other, greet the person next to you, realize that we are a community, and together we can make a better Chile.”
The government of Chile, through the Ministry of Sports, aims to promote physical activity and sports in the country, with the goal of enhancing its development and extending its benefits to all people. Therefore, it is crucial to promote the celebration of Sports Day in Chile as a national festival.

The Minister of Sports, Jaime Pizarro, also highlighted the importance of the activities taking place during these two days throughout Chile. “The advancement of physical activity and sports requires public space. That’s one of the great virtues of these activities. We want these events, taking place in all regions of the country, to be a great inspiration for the citizens and especially for the new generations. We will continue to promote public policies to generate more sports activities for our children.”
Earlier, President Gabriel Boric Font, along with the Minister of Sports, Jaime Pizarro, the Minister of Education, Nicolás Cataldo, and the Sports Undersecretary, Antonia Illanes, participated in a table tennis sports clinic at Constitution Square, where simultaneous matches were played alongside athletes from Team Chile and Team PARA Chile, demonstrating the discipline.
In 2024, it was decided that the celebration of this milestone would be a weekend of sports, so on April 6th and 7th, there will be over 300 activities open to the public taking place simultaneously throughout Chile. In each regional capital, there will be sports festivals on Sunday, April 7th, featuring runs or bike rides in central points of the city.
Additionally, thanks to coordinated efforts between the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Agriculture, 29 parks, reserves, and national monuments, in all regions, will be open and free throughout Saturday, April 6th.
