Honduras Free School Registration and Non-Mandatory Uniform Guidelines are Announced
Honduras.- The government of Xiomara Castro announced that school enrollment will be free and it was reported that the use of a uniform will not be mandatory when returning to the classroom. This was confirmed by the Secretary of Education, Daniel Sponda.
The official explained that no educational center will be authorized to charge parents to enroll a student and that the use of uniform will no longer be mandatory. It is estimated that 75% of Hondurans live in poverty and some families only have access to 50 lempiras a day, according to Notibomba.com.
“The Honduran people must be clear, we are going to reopen schools, and never close them again,” said the official about the reopening of schools after a year and a half of the coronavirus pandemic.
Likewise, he confirmed that he gave instructions to the departmental, municipal and district directors to facilitate the enrollment processes and organize the students regarding clothing, since the use of the uniform is not mandatory.

“With the same energy that they showed in the union protests, they must search for more than half a million children who are not enrolled,” is the call of the Secretary of Education of Honduras, Daniel Sponda, has made to the teachers of the country’s public system.
“Currently there are one million, 500 thousand students enrolled in the national system and 500 thousand who are not.” Declaring that the actions of teachers will be fundamental in bringing all children back to school, Sponda stated,
“We are going to look for those 500,000 children who are not enrolled. We must look for the children who are not in school.”
Education Secretary, Sponda explained that on Saturdays and Sundays they intend to develop artistic and cultural activities, to serve some students who need reinforcements.
“We are also going to focus on school rebuilding,” he said, affirming that the school infrastructure has been neglected.
“It’s been more than 12 years where not a single nail has been put into it, but we are going to talk about the mechanisms to gradually recover these spaces,” he pointed out.
It should be noted that the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) will grant a loan to Honduras of 1,796 million lempiras for the reconstruction of school infrastructure, reports Hondudiario.
Honduras celebrated the Day of the Student on June 11th. Honduras president, Xiomara Castro declared,
