“Today, Women Have Arrived to Lead the Destinies of Our Beautiful Nation,” President Claudia Sheinbaum
“I am a mother, grandmother, scientist, and woman of faith. And starting today, by the will of the people of Mexico, I am the Constitutional President of the United Mexican States,” she emphasized.
“I am certain that together we will consolidate a Mexico that is increasingly prosperous, free, democratic, sovereign, and just,” she assured.
The Constitutional President of the United Mexican States, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, stated—after taking the oath before the Congress of the Union—that starting this October 1, the Second Tier of the Fourth Transformation of Public Life in Mexico begins, and after 200 years of the Republic and 300 years of the Colony, all women have arrived to lead the destinies of the nation.
“Today, October 1, 2024, begins the second stage: the Second Tier of the Fourth Transformation of Public Life in Mexico, and today, after 200 years of the Republic and 300 years of the Colony, because before that we have no clear records, meaning that after at least 503 years, for the first time, we women have arrived to lead the destinies of our beautiful nation. And I say we have arrived because I do not arrive alone; we all arrive,” she highlighted.
She referred to all the women who fought to reach this historic moment, heroines of the homeland, but also anonymous heroines who, from home, their families, and their trenches dreamed of achieving their dreams.
“They arrive, those who dreamed of a day when it wouldn’t matter if we were born as women or men, that we could fulfill our dreams and desires, without our sex determining our destiny. They arrive, all of them, who envisioned us as free and happy,” she celebrated.
Thus, after receiving the Presidential Band from the President of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Deputies, Ifigenia Martínez, she emphasized that as a mother, grandmother, scientist, and now as the President of Mexico, she reaffirms her commitment to govern for everyone, based on the principles of Mexican Humanism that will serve as the foundation for building the Second Tier of the Fourth Transformation.
“I am a mother, grandmother, scientist, and woman of faith. And starting today, by the will of the people of Mexico, I am the Constitutional President of the United Mexican States. I will govern for everyone and I assure you that I will dedicate my knowledge, my strength, my history, and my very life to the service of the people and the homeland,” she asserted.
The new President of Mexico acknowledged the work done by former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and the love the people have for him.
“Today we say with certainty and without fear of being wrong: history and the people have judged him; Andrés Manuel López Obrador, one of the greats, the most important political leader and social fighter in modern history, the most beloved president, only comparable to Lázaro Cárdenas, who began and ended his term with more love from his people. And for millions, even though he doesn’t like being called this, the best president of Mexico, the one who initiated the peaceful revolution of the Fourth Transformation of public life in Mexico,” she pointed out.
Therefore, after taking the oath during the General Congress session, she reaffirmed her commitment to continue the programs that brought well-being to the people of Mexico, primarily the universal pension for the elderly, the Benito Juárez scholarships, the “Sembrando Vida” program, “Jóvenes Construyendo el Futuro,” support for agriculture, “La Clínica es Nuestra,” “La Escuela es Nuestra,” and all the Welfare Programs.
In addition to these programs, the President of the Republic reiterated the launch of three new programs: support for women aged 60 to 64, scholarships for students from preschool to secondary in public schools; and home medical consultations for the elderly.
She added the consolidation of the IMSS-Bienestar health system, the creation of 300,000 new higher education spaces with new public universities, and the construction of at least one million homes for young people to acquire through a rental scheme.

In terms of infrastructure, she recalled the expansion of the Maya Train and the K Line of the Interoceanic Train, in addition to new passenger train lines that will connect Mexico City with Pachuca, Nuevo Laredo, and Nogales, as well as the rescue of the line leading to Veracruz.
She highlighted ten principles of Mexican Humanism to continue the transformation project, summarized as: shared prosperity, republican austerity, honesty, governing with the people, freedom, environmental care, substantive equality, national sovereignty, politics with love and fraternity without discrimination.
“We condemn classism, racism, machismo, and any form of discrimination. It is not just a matter of tolerance; it is recognizing that deepening inequalities will always lead to injustice. Fraternity means seeing each other as equals.”
She emphasized the importance of reforming the Federal Judiciary, which will democratize the election of judges and magistrates.
“The recent constitutional reform to the Judiciary, which marks the election by popular vote of judges, magistrates, and ministers, means more autonomy and independence for the Judiciary… Think about it for a moment; if the goal had been for the president to control the Supreme Court, we would have made a reform in the style of Zedillo. No. That is authoritarianism; we are democrats. We want to end corruption in the Judiciary,” she expressed.
She explained that, with these changes, there will be a call for applications and a selection process for candidates to ensure qualified profiles in the Judiciary, but, above all, elected by the people of Mexico.
“I am confident that in a few years, all of us will be convinced that this reform is the best. I want to assure the workers of the Judiciary that their rights and salaries are fully safeguarded,” she asserted.
Finally, the Constitutional President of the United Mexican States reaffirmed her commitment to build a country with shared well-being and prosperity to continue making history. “I am confident that together we will consolidate a Mexico that is increasingly prosperous, free, democratic, sovereign, and just. I will not disappoint you,” she concluded.
