Alejandro Muñoz, better known as Alex, is a 34-year-old street photographer and photojournalist based in Puebla, Mexico. “I was born into a small family with two sisters, my mother Alejandrina, and my father Miguel, who sadly passed away when I was just 15,” he shares, reflecting on his early years. After his father’s passing, his mother took on the financial responsibility of their home with determination and hard work, allowing Alejandro to complete his university studies in Communication and Journalism.
Alejandro describes his childhood as introverted, but he always managed to connect with others. “Even though I was reserved, people often felt comfortable around me,” he reflects. His passion for photography, however, began much earlier. At the age of eight, during a family trip to Veracruz, his father handed him a disposable camera. “That was when I first encountered the magic of freezing a moment in time,” Alejandro recalls. That simple gift sparked a passion that would grow with him over the years.
What started as a curiosity turned into a professional ambition during his time at the university. Alejandro’s first real taste of the photographic world came during an internship at a local news outlet. “I discovered the adrenaline of capturing unique moments at breaking news events. It was in those moments that I realized photography wasn’t just a passion—it was my way of seeing and interpreting the world.”
Now working as a photojournalist, Alejandro continues to nurture his personal passion for street photography. “Today, I work professionally as a photojournalist, but my personal passion is capturing everyday life and the streets of my city. For the past three years, this focus has grown into a personal project I share on my street photography Instagram. My goal is to take it to the next level, organizing an exhibition and establishing myself as a reference in this field.”
Alejandro’s photographic style is defined by his love of playing with shapes and shadows. He also experiments with minimalism, an area in which he’s still refining his skills. “I still face challenges in mastering that approach,” he admits. His work celebrates the beauty in the mundane, in moments that often go unnoticed. “Photography has taught me to appreciate the beauty in the everyday and the seemingly insignificant, allowing me to uncover stories in every corner,” he says. Each photo invites the viewer to look closer.
For those starting out in photography, Alejandro offers some valuable advice: “Practice a lot, get to know your equipment, and maintain an open mindset to experiment. Passion is cultivated daily. One thing I wish I had known early on is that relationships and connections are key to growth. And when it comes to equipment, investing in good lenses has a far greater impact than focusing on the camera body.”
Alejandro is grateful for the opportunities photography has given him. “It has allowed me to capture unique moments and introduced me to amazing people—professionals, artists, workers, and even politicians—all of whom have enriched my perspective of the world,” he reflects with gratitude.
