ANT Recovers Land
After 11 years of process, ANT (Agencia Nacional de Tierras/National Land Agency) recovered a new vacant lot in Islas del Rosario, Colombia.
*The material recovery procedure of the Gente de Mar property was carried out last Thursday, March 23, with the accompaniment of the Public Ministry to guarantee the rights of the population.
*There are more than 4 hectares of land that were in the hands of a private person who occupied and built the land illegally.
*This was one of the 180 reserved vacant lots of the Nation that the ANT proposed to recover in the Nuestra Señora Islas del Rosario archipelago.

Through a recovery procedure carried out in Islas del Rosario, Cartagena, the National Land Agency – ANT took physical possession of the Gente de Mar property, where a hotel built by an individual illegally has been operating for 25 years on this vacant lot of the nation.
The property has an extension of 4 hectares + 2,991 square meters. It has two two-story buildings with rooms, kiosks, cabins and a dock that was built illegally without permission from the environmental authority.
Gente de Mar’s material recovery procedure involved a detailed inventory of all the real estate assets. The occupant of the property and the hotel workers were present at the site.
“Today we achieved the material recovery of this property that was illegally occupied and built by a person convicted by justice for dispossession of the previous occupants. We are talking with the native community and workers to ensure that their economic activities are not affected and that they can continue to do so with the new operator,” explained Gerardo Vega Medina, director of the ANT.
According to ANT, “the illegal occupant was sentenced by a sentence of the Criminal Chamber of the Superior Court of Cartagena, which was ratified by the Supreme Court of Justice in ruling No. 54692.”

The entity had five previous meetings with the community before carrying out the material recovery procedure. The State had previously tried to recover the property in 2012 and 2022, but suspended the proceedings for guardianships filed, which were denied after having frustrated the proceedings.
The recovery process for Seafarers had an inter-institutional coordination made up of the National Police, Ombudsman, Civil Defense, Colombian Migration, ICBF, Ombudsman and was accompanied by members of the National Unit for Dialogue and Maintenance of Order-UNDMO.
Gerardo Vega Medina, director of the ANT said that “all property recovery activity in Islas del Rosario is for the benefit of the native community, the black community, the raizal community and the tourist activity and economy produced by that hotel will continue and will not be affected,” the director declared.
