El Salvador Holiday Tourism 2024
El Salvador has become an increasingly attractive destination for travelers, thanks to its hospitable culture, natural beauty, and ongoing social and economic growth. The country’s improving security has further strengthened its appeal, positioning it as a top choice for both local and international visitors.

On Friday, Eny Aguiñada, the head of the Salvadoran Institute of Tourism (ISTU), shared optimistic projections for the upcoming holiday season. The government expects to welcome 125,000 foreign tourists in December alone, eager to explore the country’s cultural and natural attractions.

According to Aguiñada, this surge in international tourism is a testament to the country’s growing appeal. Improvements in security, along with ongoing advances in social, economic, and cultural development, have positioned El Salvador as a top choice for travelers. More and more international visitors are coming to “el pulgarcito” to experience the transformation happening in the country firsthand.

For domestic tourism, the forecast is equally promising. The government anticipates that 1.2 million people—both locals and international tourists—will visit the country’s parks, beaches, and other popular destinations during the Christmas and New Year period. This marks a 5% increase compared to the same time last year, reports Diario El Salvador.

One of the highlights of the holiday season is the Historic Center of San Salvador, which has been transformed into a lively, colorful space that attracts both Salvadorans and tourists alike. The revitalization of this area offers a mix of modernity and tradition, creating a festive atmosphere filled with local culture and joy.

El Salvador’s high level of security, which has earned the country the title of the safest in the region, plays a crucial role in attracting tourists. With crime rates at historic lows, visitors—both domestic and foreign—can confidently explore the country’s stunning landscapes, historical sites, and vibrant cities without worry.
As the holiday season approaches, El Salvador is ready to showcase its charm, hospitality, and beauty to the world, inviting travelers to experience its beauty firsthand.
