55 Unaccompanied Guatemalan Minors Assisted at Returnee Centers

Guatemala, September 2, 2024. The Guatemalan Migration Institute manages two Reception Centers for Returnees: One located in Zone 13 of Guatemala City, which provides care for Guatemalans returned by air, and another located in Tecún Umán, San Marcos, which provides care for Guatemalans returned by land.

During the week of August 26 to 31, a total of 1,068 Guatemalans were returned to the country from Mexico and the United States. Among them, 156 were children and adolescents; of this vulnerable group, 55 unaccompanied minors were returned, including 38 boys and 17 girls. They were received by the Children and Adolescents Unit of the Guatemalan Migration Institute.

 

 

Additionally, so far this year, 57,707 Guatemalans have been returned, including 45,523 from the United States and 3,582 from Mexico, both by air, while 8,602 Guatemalans were returned by land.
